What is the Alumni to Alumni Career Mentoring Program?
Alumni Network is an online program that connects Griffith alumni with other Griffith alumni to receive valuable industry advice through short interactions. It's an information sharing platform where participants are invited to join industry specific communities.
Due to it being solely online it allows alumni from all over the world to participate.
How do I 'release' a coaching relationship?
Go to your profile. Click your mentor's profile. Click 'more' and then 'move to past connections.'
Please ensure that you have sent your mentor a thank you email before you 'release' the relationship.
How will I know if my chosen mentor accepts my request or my requested circle preference?
You will receive an email and your mentor will be visible in your Alumni to Alumni Career Mentoring profile. You will also receive an email once you have been accepted into the requested circle.
How will it work?
Once you have completed your profile and your training you will be able to search for a mentor or join a topic based circle. You can request a mentor who you would like to connect with, they will then either accept or decline the invitation.
The system is designed so that you are able to conduct your ‘meeting’ online. However your mentor may choose to meeting via skype, a phone call or in person.
After you have met your mentor you must ‘release’ or end the relationship – make sure you remember to thank your mentor for their advice and insight.

I am not currently based in Australia, can I still participate in the Alumni to Alumni Career Mentoring program?
Yes, of course!
This is an online program and therefore geographic location will not stop you from being able to participate. Additionally, many participants are about to or are newly pursuing careers in other countries and your insights would be invaluable. You are even able to specify your time zone within your profile.
Do I need to prepare for the coaching interactions?
No, you shouldn't need to. As interactions take place online, via email, you will be able to take the time you need to respond. Mentees will ask questions and discuss areas that are associated with your experience and career so far. These questions may include how to progress their career, working across different cultures etc.
Many of the Mentees will be using this as an opportunity to hear and learn from professionals with real career experience. Essentially it is about telling them what you wish you had known when you were starting out, and giving them tips and advice to help them get to where they want to be.
How does this platform work?
Circle Discussions: Mentors and Mentees are invited to join topic based circles to share, discuss and contribute to industry specific areas.
One on One Coaching: Mentees log in to eCareerCoach and search through the Mentor profiles. Mentees are able to refine their search fields based on industry, degree etc. The search results will list the most relevant Mentor to the student first, however they may choose to connect with someone who is in an industry they are interested in moving into or would like to progress in. The best way to ensure you are found is to update your career field criteria, including both broad and specific information i.e. Economics (broad) and Economic Development (specific).
You will receive an email when a Mentee requests you as a Mentor; which you can choose accept or decline. If you accept the Mentees' request you will receive an email from the mentee with the areas they would like to discuss with you. You can reply directly from your own email account, or sign in and respond within their profile.
Though the system is designed to be purely online, you are welcome to suggest connecting via Skype, phone or in person if you prefer.
What are the benefits of the Alumni to Alumni Mentoring Program for Mentors?
The Alumni to Alumni Mentoring Program gives you the chance to increase your coaching skills and experience while connecting with other Griffith Alumni.
You can also enhance your professional profile and the profile of your organisation while knowing that you are making a positive difference to others, particularly new alumni to the workforce.
You can join topic based circles for industry specific information sharing. An additional benefit is the access to 'coach to coach' networking which is now available within the program!
